The 44th Annual Kentucky School of Alcohol and Other Drug Studies (KSAODS), held July 23-27, 2017, was our largest event ever with over 900 participants. We hope that all who attended enjoyed the new speakers and topics, as well as some favorites from years past, and the resources, services, programs and products available at the Exhibit Hall.
Along with traditional substance abuse treatment workshops, 14 workshops focused on Prevention, Behavioral Health, Integration, and Engaging Adolescents. These particular focus areas support the complex needs and emerging trends that service providers are seeing in their work across communities in Kentucky.
Each year, through the event, the Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities (DBHDID) recognizes outstanding achievement in the fields of Prevention and Treatment. The 2017 award winners are:
- Michael Lowther Award for Excellence in Prevention Work: Samantha Powell
- Robert Straus Awards for Substance Use Prevention and Treatment:
- Advocacy: Donna Bumpus
- Community Organization/Business: Reclaiming Futures in the Cumberlands
- Prevention: Jeff Jones
- Treatment: Amanda Metcalf
